A Hat for a Hipster

Before you all collapse on the floor laughing, I am not  the hipster in question!! It is sure hard to get good help as the saying goes.

I knit this hat Dustland for our son who lives in Eastern Canada. It has been very very cold there. He is a hipster. I really enjoyed this pattern, it was designed by Stephen West, a most interesting and innovative knitter. There is a really textural component, with all the patterns using simple knit and purl combinations. I thought of knitted ganseys when I knit this.

It was lots of fun to knit. I knit it with Tosh DK in Graphite. The hat is a size large which is a little big for me but will fit my son just fine (I hope!)

I have also been knitting a few more of the Amaryllis hats, why I ask myself? It is is such a nice pattern and I love playing with different colour combos.

In the first Amaryllis hat picture I used Rowan Haze doubled for the pink flower. It is such a pretty fuschia colour and has a nice soft halo  (fuzzy factor). Enough about knitting!

Our weather has been unseasonable mild, its either a very early spring or a false spring. We all rejoice with sunshine and warm weather but it really does concern me. We don't want the growing season to start too early and then get nailed by a devastating deep chill.

Crocuses are up and so is my rhubarb. Archie is exhausted from a vigorous game of ball!

I hope everyone enjoyed Valentines this past weekend. As so many of my bloggers have expressed more eloquently than I could ever do, Valentines is about sharing love and fun with friends and family. I decided to haul out some vintage china and make some treats for my knitting buddies. It was great fun!!

Sometimes you just have to ramp up the fun-o-meter!!

Have a great week!

Keep Smiling!!!

Chris

    1. Hey Nicole! I was out in our yard today and that ground is pretty soft. I pulled a few weeds too. It's probably a good thing we are getting frost at night still as I can see the sap is starting to rise in some of the trees. I really like that hat too . Hopefully he will like it. Thank you for your vote of confidence in the hipster realm lol!! Have a great week :)

  9. I love the hat you knit for your son! I used that yarn to knit a hat for my brother and I loved it so much it was hard to give to him. I wanted to keep it for myself, greedy knitter that I am. :-) I wish I had been able to attend your knitter's Valentine party. It looks like it was fun!

  10. That's a beautiful hat and I'm sure your hipster son will love it. I could see from the news on the weather that the winter has been very cold in the east and that hat would surely come in handy. Your ladies tea in a cosy knitting store looks an absolute treat. I would love to spend some time in that shop. xx

    1. Can you believe the terrible weather the whole Eastern half of the continent is getting? I see Niagra Falls is partially frozen over, that's just crazy. I am lucky to teach knitting classes in my LYS. It's a blast ! I hope my hat keeps his head warm.

  11. You knit some great stuff for your kids! My girls always ask for high fashion pieces that use super chunky yarn and I'm mean and refuse because I really don't like those really heavy yarns.

  12. Thanks so much Annie. It's hard to knit for your kids sometimes, and I sure know pretty quick that it seemed like a good idea at the time project haha! They are getting older which helps a lot! Well you have to knit with what you like, otherwise it's just no fun. I refuse to knit black socks anymore, it was just too painful!!! Have a great weekend!

  13. What a beautiful hat you have knitted for your son! I love the color and intricate stitching. I don't knit, but I have always admired those that do. The other hats are wonderful, too. How nice to have a whole room full of talented people to share good times with. Thank you for your sweet visit. xo Karen

  14. Thank you for visiting too Karen. I seem to be on a hat knitting streak still. Just talked to my sister in a Eastern Canada, they are still getting hammered with artic air. We are lucky we are getting such mild weather here.

  15. Compared to eastern Canada, my weather has been downright tropical. The hat is super cool! I like the extra room in that hat because it looks like it might reduce the dreaded Hat Head.

Your hats are terrific. I always find myself wishing I was a knitter whenever I visit. The get-to-together with your knitting pals must have been great fun- all those happy smiling faces in your pictures.
