Mailbox Makeover

I can't believe it is the middle of July already. We always have tons of projects around the house to do and we mistakenly figure we will get everything done during the summer I love doing small projects as quite possibly I might even get them done. I was looking at our old mailbox, which would be about 43 years old (!!!) and I thought this needs to go. Being a thrifty girl and a fan of up cycling, I had the brilliant idea it could be painted.

Here it is in its old glory. There was a cool star on the front that fell off years ago, maybe it got swept up with some leaves. I really liked it but its long gone.

Bought a can of spray paint, pshhht pshhht and there it is done! Now there are two holes where the star was attached. These holes bothered me, it was like a sweater missing a few buttons.

I found a few cute decorative knobs and Bob's your uncle!

Earlier in the year I bought this and put it on the front of the house. It's happy, its cheerful , it's fun. Our front garden is full of bright cheerful plants so it all works.
I was thinking with the mailbox you could change the knobs anytime.  Maybe I can become a mailbox artiste!!  hahaha

On the knitting front, not much is happening. It is too hot to knit.I started this wrap/shawl  a few weeks ago It is the Ojo de Dios Shawl. I started knitting it with some Noro Silk Garden, but I don't have enough yarn. I am waiting for a back order to come in. Hmmm....

Such a beautiful moon this past  week

Hope everyone is able to keep cool this week. Poor Archie is so bored as we have to keep him inside during the day. There is much sighing and rolling of eyes!

Happy Knitting Friends

Keep Smiling!

Chris

  1. What an amazing transformation of the mailbox - it looks so retro-chic now! I like the idea of changing the knobs (although those are very cute). You could give them a seasonal theme.

Your house decoration is lovely. I like bright cheerful things too. :)

P.S. Almost forgot to thank you for the bird ID on my blog post - I think you're right about it being a merganser. A female by the looks of it. Thanks very much!

    1. Thanks for popping in! I do love bright and cheerful, there is so much doom and gloom in the news these days. I will have to be on the lookout for different knobs too. I have really enjoyed your pictures of Colorado, that was some bike ride you participated in. Pretty awesome! We have mergansers on our lake here, they are very distinctive with their rusty red heads. Have a good weekend. Chris

    1. Thanks so much, i wasn't too sure about the colour but it works! Actually the clerk at the hardware store said why would you paint anything that colour? I hesitated and i thought I am not letting a grumpy woman dampen my enthusiasm. Havae a great weekend ! Chris

  4. I love your mailbox, especially those cool knobs. I like things that are bright and cheerful, too. I store my garden tools in a mailbox I keep in the garden. :o) I've been cruising your blog. Your knitting is really quite phenomenal! I don't knit because I'd poke an eye out with those long needles in a hot minute. Have you thought of opening an online Etsy shop?

    1. Thanks so much! I was just thinking what other mailbox can I paint now. What a great idea, I will find an old one, paint it and put it on our garden shed. Great place for storing tools etc as you suggest. Brilliant!! Thank you for your kind thoughts about my knitting, I do have tons of it, I often give it away. And gardening can be just as dangerous. A couple of times I have stepped on our old grass rake-the ones with the handles made of hardwood and in a split second I knew, thwanngg, contact with my noggin. Ouch!! I have sported a few goose eggs! Adds character, right? Have a good weekend. Chris

  5. Look at you with the mailbox project, I love it. I also love that shawl, I have thought about making it many times. It is so hot and humid here, but that is normal for us. Hope it cools off for you soon and your yarn arrives today!

  6. Thank you Meredith, gotta keep on the happy train! Tammy above has given me a great idea for another mailbox project. I will be happy to get my wool, it is an interesting knit. If you ever knit it there is a little trick i use to make the edges of the triangles look more tidy. If and when you are interested i can forward you the info! We must sound like wimps up here in Canada , but thats a huge Canadian preoccupation, moaning about the weather! have a good day Chris
